The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The name Buddy Walk promotes inclusion between friends of every ability.
The DSAWT hosts a Buddy Walk each year in Jackson, TN in late September or October. Individuals with Down syndrome, their families, neighbors, friends, teachers, school groups, and many others in the community come together for a special day of recognition and fellowship. Anyone can be a Buddy! Check our events calendar for the next Buddy Walk.
The 2021 DSAWT Buddy Walk is Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Union University in Jackson, TN on the Great Lawn, under the clock tower. More details will be posted at a later date.
Thank you to Union University and the Union Department of Education students for helping make this event possible. Invite your family, friends, neighbors, teachers, and co-workers to recognize Down Syndrome Awareness Month and the importance of inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome in our communities.
